Readiness: Custom build Concept demo

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Working farms that sell or show something to the public: farm shops, pick-your-own growers, farms running lambing weekends, pumpkin patches, tours and school visits, and farms with a holiday let or a barn used for events. It suits a farm owner who wants the website to tell the truth about the season without being asked, a shop manager who changes hours and posts a sold-out notice on a phone, whoever is on the gate on a pick-your-own day, and the person who fields cottage and trade enquiries and wants them separated from everything else.

Also worth knowing

It is less suited to growers whose main need is selling boxes and produce online with delivery rounds, who have the farm produce shop package, and to estates whose visitor operation runs on a full ticketing system with memberships and gift aid, which is a different build. It does not keep herd, flock or field records.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

Half past six on a June morning.

  1. The grower walks the strawberry rows, decides the field can open today, and sets pick-your-own to open from her phone before she reaches the gate.

  2. The season calendar on the website, the home page banner and the business listing hours all change at once.

  3. In the shop at eight the manager posts a notice that the asparagus has finished for the year and the first broad beans are in; the asparagus item on the season page turns to finished and the beans appear as new this week.

At ten a family books four places on the Sunday afternoon lambing session.

  1. The session holds twenty-five and twenty-one are now taken; when the last four go, the next family is offered the waiting list or the Saturday session instead.

  2. Confirmation and a reminder the day before go out without anyone touching them.

  3. Mid-morning a cottage enquiry for August half-term arrives with dates and party size already filled in and goes to the owner, while a restaurant asking for a weekly tray of eggs lands with the farm manager with product, volume and frequency recorded.

  4. At two it rains hard; the gate volunteer closes the field, and the website says so within the minute, so nobody drives out to a closed field.

  5. On Monday the owner sees how many visited, what was booked and which enquiries are still waiting for an answer.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your own hosting or on hosting we manage for you; the choice is made in the proposal and can be changed later. The farm owns the code and its content. Pages, season records, bookings and enquiries can be exported at any time in standard formats, and the package does not lock you to a provider.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately from the setup. When taken, it covers security updates to the platform and its dependencies, monitoring of booking confirmations and enquiry delivery, backups with restore tests, and a monthly window for small configuration changes such as a new enterprise page, a changed session capacity or a new season item. Larger changes are quoted as change requests.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is sold as a one-off setup and customisation with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on the number of enterprises and editors, whether visits are paid and booked in timed slots, accommodation integration, the add-ons selected and the hosting choice. Your proposal states each line separately so recurring costs are never hidden in the build.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the season calendar stay accurate?

Each produce item has an expected window you set once a year and a live status you change as the season actually runs: coming, in season, new this week, finished. The live status wins wherever the two differ, and it is changed from a phone in a couple of taps.

Can visitors book and pay for a lambing session or a maze slot?

Booking against capacity with a waiting list is in the base package. Taking payment for tickets or deposits is an add-on connected to a card payment provider chosen with you in the proposal.

What happens when we have to close for weather?

Gate or field staff post a closure from a phone. The field status, the home page and the relevant enterprise page change together, and people with a booking for that day can be sent a notice from the same screen.

Can the shop show what has sold out today?

Yes. Stock notices are short, dated messages the shop manager posts and removes; they appear on the shop page and, where relevant, against the produce item on the season page.

Does it show our farm assurance or organic certification?

As a record you supply. You enter the scheme, the body and the date, and the site displays them as supplied with no claim of its own. Keeping them current is the farm's task.

Can we add online produce sales later?

Yes, but as a separate build. Variable-weight pricing, delivery rounds and box subscriptions are scoped through the farm shop e-commerce service and can share this site's domain and design.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge on this page shows the real state: the package is currently a custom build assembled from our content, bookings, capacity and forms modules for each farm, and the example on this page is a labelled concept demo rather than a live client system.
