Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Manufacturers that sell through distributors, specifiers and trade buyers rather than online, from a workshop with a few dozen products and a handful of stockists up to a producer with several product families, hundreds of variants and distributors across many territories. Daily users are the product manager who keeps specifications and documents current, the marketing coordinator who publishes application pages and news, the territory salesperson who receives quotation and sample requests, the distributor who logs in for price lists and bulletins, and the engineer or buyer comparing two products and downloading a datasheet at ten at night.

Also worth knowing

It is less suited to manufacturers who want buyers to order and pay on the site, which needs a trade ordering package; to businesses whose range is a short list of services rather than specified products; and to factories looking for production tracking, which is a separate package. The catalogue is the public and dealer-facing face of the range, not the system where specifications originate.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

The product manager opens the catalogue dashboard on Wednesday.

  1. A variant in the valve family has a revised pressure rating; she edits the specification value once, the product page, the comparison table and the family listing all show the new figure, and the superseded datasheet is replaced with the new version while the old one stays in the version history with its date.

  2. A test house has issued a new report covering a whole family; she attaches it to the family with its date and scope and it appears on every product in that family.

Overnight, three enquiries arrived.

  1. A contractor in the north requested samples of two products; the request went to the salesperson who covers that territory, with the product codes attached.

  2. A distributor in another country asked to stock a family; the request went to the export sales lead as a distributor application.

  3. A procurement team requested a quotation for a listed variant with a quantity; the territory salesperson has it with the specification snapshot the buyer saw.

  4. At eleven, a buyer in a region with no stockist uses the distributor finder, finds none, and the enquiry form offers direct contact instead; sales see the region flagged in the weekly report.

  5. In the afternoon a distributor agreement ends; the coordinator closes the account and the former distributor loses the price list and bulletins the same minute.

  6. The week's report shows datasheet downloads per product, enquiries by type and territory and the regions where finder searches found nobody.

Features

What the package does

The package ships as modules that follow how a range reaches its buyers: the catalogue with specifications and documents, the comparison and application layer, the distributor finder, the enquiry layer and the dealer area. Each module below lists what it does; the comparison table shows which package variant includes it.

Content and editorial

  • Product catalogue with specificationsFamilies, products and variants with structured specifications, so buyers can find the right item and sales can trust the figures.
  • Product comparisonProducts in a family are compared side by side using the same structured specifications used elsewhere in the catalogue.
  • Application and industry pagesPages for industries and uses link to the products that suit them, helping engineers arrive from what they need to do.
  • Catalogue in additional languagesThe catalogue can be shown in further languages, each edited separately by someone who knows the product.

Documents and cases

  • Datasheets, drawings and certificatesTechnical documents attach to a product or family with a version and date, so buyers download the current issue.

Directory and reviews

  • Distributor finderBuyers find a distributor by region or country from a list your sales team maintains.

Forms and requests

  • Trade enquiry flow with routingQuotation, sample and distributor-application requests are captured separately and routed to the right person.
  • Gated datasheet downloadsSelected datasheets ask for contact details before download, giving sales a named lead for each request.

Reporting and insights

  • Enquiry and download reportingReports show enquiries and downloads by product, type and territory, so sales can see where interest is coming from.

Portal and access

  • Dealer resource areaApproved dealer accounts reach price lists and bulletins in a private area rather than by emailed attachments.

Integrations

  • Bulk import from spreadsheetsProducts and specifications can be loaded from spreadsheets instead of being typed in one record at a time.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your own hosting or on hosting we manage for you; the choice is made in the proposal and can change later. In both cases you own the code and your data. Products, specifications, documents with their version history, distributor records and the enquiry log can be exported at any time in standard formats, and nothing in the package stops you moving it to another provider.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately from the build. When taken, it covers security updates to the platform and its dependencies, monitoring of enquiry delivery and document storage, backups, and a monthly window for small configuration changes such as a new specification field, a new territory in the finder or an adjusted routing rule. Larger changes, such as a new product family with its own specification structure, are quoted as change requests against the original scope.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is sold as a one-off setup and customisation with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on the number of families, products and variants, the add-ons selected, the volume of documents and distributor records to migrate, the languages published and whether you host it yourself. Your proposal states each line separately so recurring costs are never hidden in the build.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How are specifications handled?

Each family defines its specification fields, units and whether a field is comparable. Products and variants carry values for those fields, so a change is made once and appears on the product page, the comparison view and any application page that lists the product.

What happens when a datasheet is updated?

The new version is attached with its date and becomes the download; the previous version stays in the history. Where a buyer downloaded the old version from a gated link, the download record shows which version they received.

Does the certificate module make our products compliant?

No. It displays the certificates and declarations you upload, with their date, scope and the products or families they cover. What a product must meet and whether the evidence is adequate is for you and your test houses to decide.

Can buyers order through the catalogue?

No. The catalogue ends at the quotation or sample request and the distributor referral. Manufacturers who want distributors to order online connect a trade ordering system, which is custom work scoped through custom manufacturer website development.

How does the distributor finder stay accurate?

Territory salespeople maintain their own distributor records, and distributors with a dealer account can update their own listing details for approval. Searches that return nobody are reported weekly so sales can see where coverage is missing.

Can the catalogue load from our spreadsheets?

With the bulk import add-on, yes: a spreadsheet per family mapped to the specification fields, with a preview before anything is created. A scheduled feed from a product data or ERP system is custom work rather than an add-on.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge on this page shows the real state: the package is currently a custom build assembled from our listings, documents, forms and directory modules for each manufacturer, and the example screen is a labelled concept demo rather than a live client catalogue.
