Pet shop package

An online shop that sells one product in many weights from one stock figure, lets customers set a bag on repeat, plans the van round from the orders that come in and rewards regulars at the counter and online.

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Independent pet shops, pet food suppliers and small chains, from a single high-street shop adding online ordering up to a supplier with a shop, a warehouse unit and a couple of vans. It suits owners who want the website to sell from the same shelf as the till, shop staff who pick and pack between serving customers, a warehouse or van driver who needs a picking list per round, and customers who buy the same bag every month and would rather not think about it.

Not the right fit

It is not for grooming salons or boarding kennels, which sell time and units rather than products and have their own packages, nor for marketplaces listing many sellers, which have the multi-vendor marketplace package. Shops whose main trade is live animals should talk to us before choosing, because this package treats live animals as enquiry-only or excluded.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

The shop opens at nine and the owner checks the orders screen.

  1. Overnight the repeat orders due this week have been generated: twenty-two bags of food across eleven customers, each already allocated to the Tuesday or Thursday round by postcode area, with three customers flagged because their card payment did not go through and a reminder sent.

  2. A new online order comes in for a fifteen-kilogram bag of senior dog food and a bag of frozen raw; checkout offered the customer a van slot on Thursday because her postcode is in the round and the frozen line is van-only, and the stock figure for both variants dropped at the moment she paid.

At eleven a regular buys the same fifteen-kilogram bag at the counter.

  1. The till sale takes the last one off the website, which now shows the two-kilogram and seven-kilogram weights only, and the customer's loyalty points land on the account she also uses online.

  2. In the afternoon the driver opens Thursday's picking list on his phone, grouped by round and sorted by stop, with frozen items marked to load last.

  3. A customer asks about a pair of guinea pigs in the shop window that she saw on the website; the listing was enquiry-only, so the conversation started by email and the owner has it on screen.

  4. At close the owner sees the day's takings across counter and online, the reorder report for lines below their minimum and the repeat orders due next week.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on hosting the shop chooses or on hosting we manage, and in both cases the shop owns the code and the data. Products, stock, customers, orders, repeat schedules and loyalty balances can be exported in standard formats at any time, and nothing in the package stops the shop moving it to another provider.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately. When taken it covers security updates to the platform and dependencies, monitoring of payment callbacks, repeat-order runs and notification delivery, backups with a tested restore, and a monthly window for configuration changes such as a new round, cycle or loyalty rule. Larger changes are quoted as change requests.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is priced as a one-off set-up and customisation with optional recurring hosting and maintenance lines. The set-up figure depends on the size of the catalogue and how clean the product data is, the add-ons chosen, whether a till is connected, the payment and courier providers used and how many customers and orders are migrated. Each line appears separately in the proposal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do weight-based variants work?

A product such as a senior dog food is one listing with variants for each bag weight. Each variant has its own price, barcode and stock figure, so the website never shows the large bag in stock when only the small one is on the shelf.

How do repeat orders work?

With the repeat-orders add-on, a customer chooses a variant and a cycle, such as every four weeks. The package generates the order, collects payment through the connected provider, allocates it to a round or courier and tells the customer. They can change the bag, skip a cycle or pause from their account.

Can we offer our own van delivery as well as couriers?

Yes, with the local rounds add-on. Rounds are defined by day and postcode area; a customer in the round sees a van slot at checkout and everyone else sees courier methods. Frozen or heavy lines can be marked van-only.

Does the website share stock with the shop till?

The package keeps one stock figure per variant and can be used at the counter as the till. Connecting an existing till is custom work scoped on the pet shop e-commerce development service page.

Can we sell animals through it?

Not through a basket. The shop configures live animals as excluded or as enquiry-only profiles that open a conversation with the shop. The decision and what follows are the shop's own.

Is this a finished product with a live demo?

Not yet. The readiness badge on this page states the real position: it is a custom build assembled from our listings, inventory, orders and memberships modules for each shop, and the example screen is a labelled concept demo rather than a live client system.
