Readiness: Custom build Concept demo

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Small and medium factories, workshops and process plants that make to order or in batches, from a single-line workshop with one shift up to a plant with several lines, two or three shifts and a few dozen machines. Daily users are the production manager who wants to see every order and line at once, the planner who schedules and reschedules, the line supervisor who opens and closes shifts, the operator logging quantities and downtime on a tablet, the quality inspector recording checks per batch, and the maintenance engineer working through the machine task list.

Also worth knowing

It is less suited to continuous process plants that need control-system integration from the start, to businesses whose main need is purchasing and supplier management, and to manufacturers who want a product catalogue for trade buyers, which is a separate package. The package runs the floor; it does not replace an ERP as the record of orders and stock values.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

The planner opens the board at seven.

  1. Line two shows an order in the machining stage, three in the queue and capacity for the day shift filled; line three has a gap after lunch.

  2. An order pulled forward by a customer arrives from the ERP overnight; she drags it onto line three, the board checks the bill of materials against stock and warns that one material lot is short by a quarter, so she splits the order and releases the part that can be made.

  3. At the line, the supervisor opens the shift on the tablet and the operator starts the first batch; the material lot numbers scanned at issue are recorded against the batch without anyone writing them down.

At ten, a press stops.

  1. The operator picks the downtime reason from the list, the board shows the line paused and the planner sees the two orders behind it slip before anyone phones her.

  2. The maintenance engineer gets the breakdown in his task list beside the scheduled inspection due on the same machine next week, does both, and records the parts used.

  3. At two, the inspector runs the checks defined for the product on the finished batch, one dimension is out of tolerance, and she raises a non-conformance with a hold; the batch cannot be dispatched until the production manager records a disposition.

  4. At four the shift closes with quantities, scrap and downtime already totalled.

  5. Two completed orders are picked for dispatch; the notes print with batch numbers and go back to the ERP as completions.

  6. The manager's dashboard shows throughput by line, downtime by reason and first-pass quality for the week, and when a customer later queries a batch, the trace view shows its lots, machines, shifts, operators and inspector in one screen.

Features

What the package does

The package ships as modules that follow an order through the plant: orders and materials, the planning board, the shift floor, quality and traceability, maintenance and dispatch, and the dashboards. Each module below lists what it does; the comparison table shows which package variant includes it.

Workflow and tasks

  • Production orders with stagesOrders move through stages defined for each product family, with the status of every stage visible to planners.
  • Tablet shift logsOperators record quantities, scrap and downtime reasons on a tablet at the line instead of on paper.

Stock and inventory

  • Bills of materials with material checkEach product has a bill of materials, and an order is checked against materials before it can be released to the floor.
  • Barcode scanning and label printingScan and label lots, batches and dispatches to cut transcription errors on the floor.
  • Finished goods stock with locationsFinished goods tracked by storage location, so dispatch can find what has been made.

Scheduling

  • Planning board by line and shiftA board shows orders by line and shift against capacity, so overloaded shifts are visible before the week starts.
  • Machine maintenance scheduleMaintenance tasks with intervals and completion records for each machine, so planned work is not forgotten.

Compliance and records

  • Material lot and batch traceabilityMaterial lots are recorded when issued, so a finished batch can be traced back to what went into it.
  • Quality checks and holdsChecks per product and batch, with non-conformance records and holds that stop affected stock moving on.

Documents and cases

  • Dispatch notesDispatch notes are produced from completed orders, so the paperwork matches what was actually made.

Reporting and insights

  • Throughput, downtime and quality dashboardsDashboards of throughput, downtime and first-pass quality give managers one place to see how the plant is running.

Portal and access

  • Contractor login for maintenance engineersExternal maintenance engineers get their own login to see and complete the tasks assigned to them.

    • Scan material lots at issue
    • Record quantities, scrap and downtime reasons
    • Flag a problem for the supervisor
  • Quality inspector

    • Run the checks defined for a product on a batch and record results
    • Raise non-conformances and place a batch on hold
    • Attach photographs and measurements
    • View the trace for any batch

Concept demo

Concept demo of a factory planning board showing lines and shifts, order cards by stage, a paused line with a downtime reason and a material shortage warning.

The planning board as the planner sees it: lines across the top, shifts down the side, orders as cards with their current stage, a paused line with its downtime reason and a material shortage warning on an order waiting for release.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your own hosting or on hosting we manage for you; the choice is made in the proposal and can change later. In both cases you own the code and your data. Orders, shift logs, quality records, the trace and maintenance history can be exported at any time in standard formats, and nothing in the package stops you moving it to another provider or handing records to an auditor in a form they can read.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately from the build. When taken, it covers security updates to the platform and its dependencies, monitoring of the ERP exchange and tablet connectivity, backups, and a monthly window for small configuration changes such as a new machine, a new downtime reason or a revised check list. Changes to the format your ERP accepts are handled inside maintenance where minor and quoted as change requests where not.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is sold as a one-off setup and customisation with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on the number of lines, machines and shifts, the add-ons selected, the depth of bills of materials, the ERP exchange required, the volume of product and order data migrated and whether you host it yourself. Your proposal states each line separately so recurring costs are never hidden in the build.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the material check work?

When the planner releases an order, the package multiplies the bill of materials by the quantity and compares it with recorded stock. A shortage is shown before the batch starts, and the planner can split the order, wait, or release with a recorded override.

Does it replace our ERP?

No. The ERP stays the record of sales orders, purchasing and stock values. With the exchange add-on, orders come in and completions and consumption go back in a standard file format; a live connection to a particular ERP is custom work.

How is traceability built?

Material lots are recorded at receipt and scanned or selected when issued to a batch. The batch also records the machine, shift, operators and inspector, so the trace view for any dispatched batch is assembled from what happened rather than reconstructed afterwards.

Does the quality module certify our batches?

No. It records the checks you define, the results, the inspector and any non-conformance with its disposition, and holds a batch until the manager releases it. Whether that satisfies a customer or a standard is a judgement for you and your auditors, not something software can confirm.

What do operators see?

Their line and their shift: the current batch, the next in the queue, buttons to start, pause with a reason and finish, and the fields for quantity and scrap. Nothing about other lines, costs or customers.

Can an external maintenance contractor use it?

With the contractor login add-on, yes. The contractor sees the machines and tasks assigned to them, records completion and parts, and can mark a machine unavailable so the planner sees it on the board.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge on this page shows the real state: the package is currently a custom build assembled from our capacity, inventory, forms and documents modules for each plant, and the example screen is a labelled concept demo rather than a live client system. Requirements outside the listed options go through custom factory software development.
