Readiness: Custom build Concept demo

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Online broadcasters, video channels and streaming brands, from a single-channel operation with one scheduler and one content manager to a brand running several programme strands with a rights manager who tracks windows. It suits schedulers who want the guide to drive the live stream, content managers who upload once and let the pipeline do the rest, rights managers who need expiry and restrictions enforced without reminders, and viewers who expect to pick up where they left off.

Also worth knowing

It is less suited to radio stations, whose core need is a persistent audio player and listen-again, and to podcast networks, which publish to directories through feeds. Both have their own packages. Channels with rights that vary by competition and territory, or with several live channels, should look at the custom service first.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

The content manager drops Tuesday's master file into the ingest folder.

  1. The pipeline sends it to the connected encoding provider, receives the renditions, attaches them to the episode record under its season, and marks it ready.

  2. The rights manager opens the episode, sets a thirty-day catch-up window and an age rating, and notes that it cannot be shown in one territory; the restrictions are saved on the programme and will be enforced at playback.

  3. The scheduler places the episode at eight on Thursday in the guide and the "on now" marker will pick it up automatically.

On Thursday evening the live stream for a panel show runs over by fifteen minutes.

  1. The scheduler drags the following slot back; the guide updates for every viewer and the live embed stays on the panel show until it ends.

  2. A subscriber watching on a phone stops the recorded episode halfway through and resumes on a laptop the next morning from the same point.

  3. A viewer in the blocked territory sees a clear message rather than a broken player.

  4. A month later the catch-up window closes and the episode leaves the library on its own.

  5. In the reporting view the content manager sees plays and completion per programme and the peak concurrent audience for the live show.

Features

What the package does

The package is organised as modules that follow a programme from ingest to expiry: catalogue and ingest, schedule and live, library and restrictions, and viewers and access. Each module below lists what it does; the comparison table shows which package variant includes it.

Listings and search

  • Channel and programme catalogueOrganise shows into channels, with seasons and episodes that viewers can browse.
  • Programme guide and live streamA guide shows what is on now and next, with a live stream embedded in the page.

Content and editorial

  • Ingest and transcoding pipelineUploaded video is prepared for playback on different connections through a transcoding provider you configure.
  • On-demand library with publish and expiryProgrammes appear in the library on a chosen date and are withdrawn when their window ends.
  • Catch-up windows per programmeSet how long each programme stays available to watch again after it airs.
  • Subtitles and captionsAttach subtitles and captions obtained from a connected service so more viewers can follow along.

Compliance and records

Accounts and permissions

  • Viewer accounts with watch historyViewers sign in to keep a watch history and resume a programme where they stopped.

Reporting and insights

  • Playback and audience reportingSee what is watched, for how long and by how many viewers, to guide scheduling and commissioning.

Memberships

  • Subscription plans with entitlement checksOffer paid plans and check at playback that the viewer is entitled to watch.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your hosting or on hosting we manage, chosen in the proposal and changeable later. You own the code, the catalogue data and the viewer records. Media files remain with your delivery provider under your own account, and catalogue, schedule and viewer data can be exported in standard formats at any time.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately. When taken, it covers security updates to the platform and its dependencies, monitoring of the ingest pipeline, the live embed and entitlement checks, backups of catalogue and viewer data, and a monthly window for small configuration changes such as a new programme strand or a change to a restriction rule. Larger changes are quoted as change requests.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is sold as a one-off setup and customisation with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on whether the channel is live, on-demand or both, the size of the library to import, the delivery provider involved, the add-ons chosen and whether you host it yourself. Provider fees for encoding and delivery are billed by the provider and are shown as a separate item in the proposal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which video provider does the package use?

The package connects to an encoding and delivery provider chosen with you during setup. If you already have one, we connect to it; if not, we recommend options that suit your hours of video and expected audience.

What happens when a live show overruns?

The scheduler moves the following slots in the guide and the live embed stays on the current show. Viewers see the updated guide without a page refresh.

Can we restrict a programme to one country?

Yes. Geo restrictions are set per programme and checked at playback. A viewer outside the permitted territory sees a clear message instead of the player.

Can we sell one event without a subscription?

With the pay-per-view add-on, yes. A single programme or event can be bought on its own and unlocks that stream and its catch-up window.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge shows the real state: the package is a custom build assembled from our catalogue, scheduling, membership and orders modules for each channel, and the example on this page is a labelled concept demo rather than a live broadcaster.

We run three live channels at once. Is that in the package?

The package ships one live channel. Several simultaneous channels with their own guides is custom work, covered by the custom internet television platform service.
