Software package

Company directory package

A ready-to-configure B2B directory where companies hold sector codes, size bands, service lines and named contacts, representatives verify through their company domain, researchers search and export within their membership tier, and sponsored sector pages carry a labelled sponsor block with enforced dates.

Readiness: Custom build Concept demo

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

B2B directory publishers, trade bodies and sector associations, from a small association with a few hundred member companies and one membership secretary to a publisher maintaining a national database used by procurement teams. It suits publishers who want verification and exports to follow rules rather than judgement, membership staff who approve representatives and chase stale profiles, researchers who need filters that match tender criteria, and company representatives who want to keep their own profile current without emailing anyone.

Not the right fit

It is not for a consumer-facing local directory with opening hours, offers and map search; that is the business directory package. It is not for person-level practitioner profiles with qualifications; that is the specialist directory package. It is also not a procurement portal: no tenders are issued, no bids are received and no contracts are formed on the platform.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

Tuesday, half past nine.

  1. The membership secretary opens the representative queue.

  2. A registration arrived from someone at a logistics company; the code went to the address on the company domain, it was entered, and the record now shows "verified by domain email" with today's date.

  3. The representative has already updated two contacts and added a service line for temperature-controlled storage, which placed the company under a second sector code.

  4. A second registration is from a webmail address, so it sits in the exception queue for the secretary to handle by phone to the company switchboard rather than being approved on trust.

At eleven a procurement researcher at a member organisation searches for contract packers with a size band above fifty staff, a particular accreditation and a location in two regions.

  1. The search returns thirty-one profiles with the filters shown; she saves the search and exports the list.

  2. Her tier allows contact details, so the export includes them, and the log records her name, the filters, the row count and the time.

  3. At two the editor sets up a sponsored block on the food-processing sector page: the sponsor name, the dates and the label are fixed, and the block will disappear by itself when the sponsorship ends.

  4. Later in the afternoon the reconfirmation run sends requests to representatives whose profiles have not been confirmed in twelve months; the profiles that go unanswered after the reminder period will show a "last confirmed" date to researchers.

  5. At five the publisher sees verified profiles per sector, stale profiles, searches run per tier this month and the sectors most searched.

Features

What the package does

The package ships as modules that follow the company record: taxonomy and migration, registration and verification, profile enrichment, researcher search and member access, exports and logging, sponsorship, and reconfirmation and reporting. Each module below lists what it does; the comparison table shows which package variant includes it.

Directory and reviews

  • Multi-level sector taxonomyCompanies are classified under a multi-level sector tree, and a company can carry several sector codes.

Listings and search

  • Company profile schemaEach profile holds size band, locations, contacts by role, service lines and accreditations exactly as the company supplied them.

Accounts and permissions

  • Representative verificationRepresentatives verify by a code sent to the company domain, with an exception queue for cases such as webmail addresses.

Workflow and tasks

  • Researcher search and saved searchesResearchers filter by sector, size band, region and accreditation, and save searches to repeat later.

Memberships

  • Membership tiersTiers control who can search, see contact details and export, so access matches what each member has joined for.

Reporting and insights

  • Logged exports with allowancesExports are limited by a per-period allowance and every export is recorded against the member.

Compliance and records

  • Reconfirmation requestsProfiles show a last-confirmed date and companies are asked to reconfirm, so stale data is visible.

Catalogue and checkout

  • Sponsored sector pagesSponsor blocks on sector pages are labelled as such and switch on and off by enforced dates.

Integrations

  • Duplicate detection and mergeImports flag likely duplicate companies and staff merge them into a single record.
  • Company register look-upLegal details can be prefilled from a company register and are stored as the register returned them.

Messaging and notifications

  • Single sign-on and new-match notificationsMember organisations can sign in through single sign-on, and researchers can be told when a saved search finds a new match.

Concept demo

Concept demo of a company directory supplier search with sector, size band, region and accreditation filters and an export control that shows the remaining tier allowance.

The researcher search for contract packers: filters for sector code, size band, two regions and an accreditation shown above thirty-one results, with the export button showing the remaining allowance for the member tier and the note that the export will be logged.

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your own hosting or on hosting we manage; researchers and your team use a browser and representatives can use the mobile web version. You own the code and your data in either case. Company records, verification history, membership permissions, export logs and sponsorship records can be exported at any time in standard formats, and nothing stops you moving the directory to another provider.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately. When taken, it covers security updates, monitoring of verification emails, reconfirmation runs, export jobs and payment callbacks, backups, and a monthly window for small changes such as a new accreditation field or a changed tier allowance. Larger changes, such as a taxonomy revision, are quoted as change requests against the original scope.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

Sold as a one-off setup and customisation with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on the taxonomy, the profile schema, the volume and condition of records to migrate, the membership tiers, the add-ons chosen and the payment provider. Membership fees and sponsorship your directory charges are your own commercial model, collected through your payment provider and unrelated to what you pay us. Each line is itemised in the proposal so recurring costs are never hidden in the setup.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What if a company uses a shared webmail domain?

The registration goes to an exception queue instead of being verified automatically. The membership secretary confirms by another route you define, such as a call to the published switchboard number, and the profile then shows that route and the date rather than "verified by domain email".

Can a company sit under more than one sector code?

Yes. A company holds any number of codes at any level, and each service line can carry its own code. Researchers filtering by a parent code see companies under any of its children.

How are exports controlled?

Per tier: which fields are included, whether contacts are included, and how many rows per period. Every export records who ran it, the filters and the row count, and the admin can see export activity per member organisation.

How are sponsored sector pages disclosed?

The sponsor block carries a visible label, sits in a fixed position on the page, and has start and end dates the page enforces. Sponsorship never changes which companies appear in search results or their order.

What happens to profiles nobody confirms?

They stay published but show a "last confirmed" date to researchers, and the membership secretary sees them in a stale list. You can choose to unpublish profiles after a period you set, or leave them visible with the date.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge shows the real state: the package is a custom build assembled from our directory, listings, memberships and orders modules for each publisher, and the screen on this page is a labelled concept demo rather than a live client directory. Anything beyond the listed options is scoped as custom company directory development.
