Readiness: Custom build Concept demo

Who it is for

Built for

A good fit

Independent retailers and brands selling direct, from a single-shop business putting its range online for the first time to a brand with a warehouse and a handful of shops that wants one stock picture. It suits shop managers who set up products and promotions, warehouse staff who pick and pack all day, customer service staff who handle order queries and returns, and customers who expect accurate stock, tracked delivery and easy returns.

Also worth knowing

It is less suited to trade sellers with account pricing and credit terms, which the wholesale ordering package covers, to sellers of downloads and licences, which the digital downloads package covers, and to operators who host other sellers, which is the multi-vendor marketplace package. Businesses with location priority rules, drop-ship splits or a till that must sync in real time should look at the custom service first.

The operational problem it solves

How it runs, step by step

The warehouse supervisor opens the orders screen at eight.

  1. Overnight orders are listed with their fulfilling location already allocated: most from the warehouse, two from the Brighton shop because the warehouse is out of that colour.

  2. She releases the warehouse batch, and a pick list grouped by aisle is printed; each line shows the variant, the bin and the quantity.

  3. As parcels are packed, the carrier label is created from the order with no retyping, the tracking number is written back to the order and the customer receives a dispatch email with the tracking link.

In Brighton the assistant sees a click-and-collect order on the shop tablet, picks the item from the shelf, marks it ready and the customer gets a collection message.

  1. A customer service agent takes a call about a jumper that did not fit: she opens the order, raises a return with the reason, emails a returns label and the return appears in the warehouse queue.

  2. When it arrives and is checked, the refund goes back to the original card through the payment provider and stock is returned to the warehouse count.

  3. The shop manager, meanwhile, sets up a weekend promotion with a start and end time so nothing needs doing on Saturday morning, and checks the stock alerts list for lines that have dropped below their reorder point.

Features

What the package does

The package ships as modules that follow an order from browsing to delivery and back: catalogue and stock, storefront and checkout, fulfilment and collection, returns and refunds, and customer accounts and marketing. Each module below lists what it does; the comparison table shows which package variant includes it.

  • Catalogue with variants and attributesCategories, variants, attributes, images and related products, so shoppers can find the right size, colour or model.
  • Storefront search, filters and bundlesShoppers search and filter the range, buy bundles, keep wish lists and read reviews from other customers.
  • Gift wrapping and gift messagesLet customers choose gift wrapping and add a message at checkout.

Stock and inventory

  • Stock per variant and locationStock is counted per variant and per location, with alerts when an item reaches its reorder point.

Payments and policies

  • Checkout with discount codes and tax rulesCheckout through a connected payment provider, with discount codes and tax rules you configure.
  • Shipping methods, pick lists and labelsShipping methods and zones, pick lists for the warehouse and carrier labels printed from the order.
  • Click-and-collectCustomers collect in store and are notified when the order is ready.
  • Returns with refunds and restockingReturns record the reason, refund to the original payment and return the item to stock.

Portal and access

  • Customer accounts with order trackingCustomers see order history and tracking, which cuts down on where-is-my-order messages.

Messaging and notifications

  • Order notifications and abandoned-basket emailsCustomers are notified as orders progress, and shoppers who leave a basket behind receive a reminder.

Integrations

Ownership, maintenance and pricing

After the build

Deployment and ownership

The package runs on your own hosting or on hosting we manage for you; the choice is made in the proposal and can change later. In both cases you own the code and your data. Products, customers, orders and stock movements can be exported at any time in standard formats, and nothing in the package stops you moving it to another provider. Card details never touch the shop; they are handled by the connected payment provider.

Maintenance

Maintenance is optional and scoped separately from the build. When taken, it covers security updates to the platform and its dependencies, monitoring of payment provider callbacks, carrier connections and notification sends, backups, and a monthly window for small configuration changes such as a new shipping zone, a tax rule or a category. Larger changes are quoted as change requests against the original scope.

Pricing model

Priced per proposal.

The package is sold as a one-off setup and customisation, with optional monthly maintenance and hosting as separate recurring lines. The setup figure depends on the size of the catalogue, the number of stock locations, the add-ons selected, the payment provider and carriers connected, how much data is migrated and whether you host it yourself. Payment provider and carrier fees are charged by those providers directly and are not part of what you pay us. Your proposal states each line separately.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How are variants and stock handled?

A product carries attributes such as size and colour, and each combination is a variant with its own code, price override if needed and stock count per location. The product page shows what is in stock per variant, and the shop manager decides which locations feed online sales.

Can customers collect from our shops?

Yes. Click-and-collect is offered at checkout for shops that hold the item, the order appears on that shop's screen, and the customer is notified when it is marked ready. The shop assistant records the handover.

How do returns and refunds work?

Customers start a return from their account or customer service raises one on their behalf, with a reason. A returns label is emailed where the carrier supports it, the return is checked in by the warehouse, stock is restored and the refund is sent to the original payment through the payment provider, within the rules the shop manager set.

How is VAT applied?

Through tax rules configured by the shop manager per category and destination zone. The package applies the rules you set at checkout and on invoices; which rate applies to which product is your decision, taken with your accountant.

Does it take payments itself?

No. Payments run through a card or wallet provider connected during setup; the package records authorisations, captures and refunds against the order. The provider is chosen with you in the proposal and can be changed later.

Can we sell through shopping channels?

With the product feed add-on, the catalogue is exported in the format each channel specifies, with the attributes the channel needs validated before the feed is published so lines are not rejected for missing data.

Is this a finished product I can see running?

Not yet. The readiness badge on this page shows the real state of the package: it is currently a custom build assembled from our catalogue, inventory and orders modules for each retailer, and the example on this page is a labelled concept demo rather than a live shop.

We ship some lines straight from a supplier. Is that included?

The package fulfils from your own locations. Splitting an order so a supplier ships part of it, with its own delivery estimate, is custom work handled through the custom online shop service.
