An energy city moving into its next era
Few places are as closely tied to one industry as Aberdeen is to energy. VisitAberdeenshire's business pages describe decades of oil and gas expertise, a deep supply chain and the UK Government's decision to locate GB Energy in the city. Scottish Development International lists the projects shaping the transition: the Energy Transition Zone, the Acorn carbon capture and storage project, the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre and the floating turbines of Hywind Scotland.
The port is part of that story. Port of Aberdeen is a trust port that reinvests its profits, serving energy, cargo, cruise and ferry customers, and its largest recent investment has been the Aberdeen South Harbour expansion. For the contractors, vessel operators and logistics firms working around it, every job generates certificates, inspection records, timesheets and invoices that must line up.
Energy is not the whole picture. The Foresterhill Health Campus brings together NHS Grampian, the University of Aberdeen and industry partners in one of Europe's largest integrated clinical and research sites, and the ONE Tech Hub supports start-ups in a digital sector whose strengths include energy tech, climate tech and agritech. The surrounding region is also known for Aberdeen Angus beef and large seafood landings, which keeps food processing and distribution busy.
