Ports, shipping and freight
Forwarders, hauliers, agents and storage operators around the docks handle bookings, customs documents and container releases for many customers. Shared portals give each customer live status without a phone call.
Yorkshire and the Humber
Kingston upon Hull has always looked outward: to the North Sea, to Rotterdam and the Baltic, and now to the offshore wind industry out in the North Sea. Its firms move timber, containers, turbine blades and healthcare products, and the paperwork behind all of it. We build the web software that keeps those operations clear, and we work with Hull clients remotely through video calls, written proposals and a shared project panel.
Local context
Hull was a market town, a military supply port, a trading centre and a fishing and whaling base long before it became an industrial city. Seafaring and heavy industry have since declined, but the port has not. Associated British Ports describes Hull as the UK's leading softwood timber port, with a container terminal that runs weekday sailings to Rotterdam and services to the Baltic states, and P&O's overnight ferry to Rotterdam links the city to the Netherlands and Germany.
The biggest change of recent years is renewable energy. ABP calls the Humber the UK's energy estuary, and Green Port Hull, opened at the port in 2017 as a joint venture between ABP and Siemens, manufactures, assembles and services offshore wind turbine blades. A web of fabricators, marine services, training providers and logistics firms has grown up around it, each with its own records of people, parts and certificates to manage.
The city has other strengths too. Companies such as BP and Reckitt have facilities in Hull, the founder of Smith & Nephew came from the city, and the University of Hull supports health research through the Hull York Medical School partnership. The C4DI technology hub, the year as UK City of Culture in 2017 and attractions such as The Deep, an education and conservation charity with a large aquarium, show a city that has been steadily adding digital and visitor businesses to its industrial base.
Sectors
Forwarders, hauliers, agents and storage operators around the docks handle bookings, customs documents and container releases for many customers. Shared portals give each customer live status without a phone call.
Fabricators, inspection firms and marine contractors serving the wind sector track technician competence, equipment certification and work packs per vessel or turbine. We build systems that keep that evidence linked and current.
Manufacturers and their suppliers need batch records, quality documentation and supplier portals that satisfy demanding customers and regulators.
With timber arriving through the port, merchants and processors want trade accounts, cut lists, delivery scheduling and stock visibility across yards.
Museums, venues, tour operators and hospitality firms benefit from online ticketing, timed entry and memberships that bring people back between big events.
Common requests
Port-side and energy firms make up much of the demand, but not all of it.
Container, trailer or pallet status shown online with documents attached, so customers serve themselves.
Training records, certificates, permits and work packs organised by person, asset and job, with alerts before anything lapses.
Account customers ordering timber and materials online, choosing delivery or collection, and seeing their invoices.
Digital batch sheets and deviation logs that replace paper and make audits faster.
Timed tickets, annual passes and gift aid for attractions, with entry checked on a tablet at the door.
Services
For Hull firms competing for national and international contracts, we build websites that set out capabilities, accreditations and port connections clearly, and that load fast for buyers checking on a phone.
Freight portals, competence registers, batch records or yard management, designed around how your Hull operation runs from the quayside to the office.
Technicians, drivers and dock staff can use one installable web app on phones and tablets, capturing photos, signatures and checks even where signal drops near the water.
Specialists in the city's energy, maritime and logistics sectors can turn their know-how into a subscription product, with accounts, billing and an admin panel from the first release.
We build online shops and trade portals for Hull merchants, manufacturers and makers, with account pricing, delivery zones and stock that matches the yard.
We connect transport, warehouse, accounting and customer systems, and exchange data with the platforms ports, carriers and large customers already use.
How we work
We work with Hull organisations without anyone needing to travel. A first video call maps your process, a shared folder of sample documents fills in the detail, and from then on progress, questions and approvals all run through the client panel.
Before any build begins you receive a written proposal covering scope, milestones and price. Each milestone is reviewed with you as working software, and nothing moves on until you are satisfied.
A video call to understand the business, the people who will use the software and what has to change.
Scope, milestones and price in writing. Nothing starts until you accept it.
Each milestone is reviewed with you; progress, files and decisions stay in your client panel.
Go-live when you are ready, then maintenance and hosting if you want them.
